The truth is, GS has no control over “feminists.” It’s not like the AARP, where everyone is basically on the same page looking for low insurance premiums. The war of the sexes is now in every corner of American culture and society.

Originally I was wary of identifying as a feminist. I thought feminists might be offended that I disagree with mainstream feminist opinion on some issues.

I stop worrying about that when I hear people express sexist or anti-feminist ideas.

GudEnuf, I’d be interested to hear what you think of my objections to her statements as outlined above in my comment to An Unmarried Man. Agree or disagree?
Also, I’m curious to know where you disagree with feminists. I’d have to say, you’re one of the two or three most prominent defenders of feminism here.

Well feminists disagree about a lot of things, so I think even my “dissident” opinions could find some minority support within feminists circles.

With that understood:

1) I don’t like the language of “patriarchy” and “privilege.” I don’t think men ever decided “lets make women’s lives a living hell”. I think that sexism is a result of gender norms that were once useful, but are now a liability.

2) I don’t “violence against women” rhetoric. Men are more likely to be victims of violence than women are, ipso facto, putting special emphasis on violence against women is sexist.
